A farmhouse which is a Grade II listed building has been granted listed building consent for a scheme of alterations. Conservation expert Stephanie has been working with Jill and her family who have been undertaking the sympathetic refurbishment of the 18thCentury Farmhouse which is located within the Vale of Belvoir. The farmhouse was formerly part of the Belvoir Estate and still has a working farmyard behind. Fronting onto the main village street the property comprises three storeys with original sliding sash and yorkshire slider timber windows and a beautiful timber porch. Inside, the property has two staircase causing a somewhat complicated layout.
Jill and her family have a true appreciation of the responsibilities placed upon them as the new custodians of the farmhouse. They have ensured a careful and sympathetic refurbishment which uses traditional materials and breathable paints in order to facilitate the appropriate conservation of the property. There were however some alterations which Jill wanted to undertake in order to ensure its sustainable future as a family home and to replace later additions which had failed or were not in-keeping with the property. These included re-constructing the dilapidated and poorly detailed garden room and rear porch, replacing ugly roof lights and opening up fireplaces which had been bricked in. Stephanie worked with Jill and the conservation builder Paul Collingwood in order to gain a full understanding of the evolution of the farmhouse so that all decisions and proposals were fully informed, sympathetic and in-keeping with the architecture of the farmhouse. This culminated in the submission of a Listed Building Consent application with permission granted by the Local Authority South Kesteven District Council.
Jill is liaising with her conservation builder regarding commencing the works later in 2019. We look forward to both seeing the completed works and sharing photographs with you later in the year!
