Repair and Conservation

We can provide a full schedule of works and detailed drawings for your repair and conservation project

A domed roof with new lead applied beneath a temporary roof scaffold structureMany are often guilty of directly arranging repair and conservation works with a builder with the works and price agreed verbally or at best, via email.

Whilst this may be a suitable arrangement with a trusted and experienced builder, it can often lead to client dissatisfaction if their requirements have not been fully understood and met, or if the builder requests additional payments for works that they didn’t include within their price.

This is where Evans & James Heritage Consultants can help. We have 18 years’ experience of design and specification of repair and conservation works to heritage assets.

Repair & Restoration in Heritage & ConservationWe will develop a detailed schedule of works and specification which itemises the works required, along with which products to be used along with relevant detailed and annotated drawings. These documents will then be compiled into a tender package. Evans & James will manage the tender and procurement process in order to ensure that suitably qualified and skilled heritage contractors are appointed.

Whilst this is a slightly lengthier processes than going direct to contractor for a quotation, it ensures that you find the right contractor for your project. In addition, this process provides a full cost breakdown of their quotation, giving you, and the contractor, assurances that they have quoted for exactly what you have expected.

The schedule of works and drawings can also be used as supporting documents for your listed building consent application where this is necessary. Evans & James can assist you through the planning process in order to ensure you obtain the relevant consents required.

Through regular site visits and inspections we will ensure that the repair and conservation works are undertaken in accordance with the schedule of works and to the highest quality standards.
