LOCATIONS

Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

A view of a pale pink rendered listed Rectory located in EpperstoneNottingham is a city that is close to my heart. I was born and raised here, completed my undergraduate degree in Building Surveying at Nottingham Trent University, and returned early in my career as a Chartered Building Surveyor.

Nottingham boasts a rich history and heritage and is not just about its buildings but also its industrial history. The Lace Market, once the heart of the world’s lace industry, is now a protected heritage area, showcasing stunning Victorian architecture. The Grantham Canal and the River Trent played pivotal roles in the city’s industrial development, facilitating trade and transport.

The cave system beneath Nottingham is another fascinating aspect of its heritage. These caves, used historically for storage, defence, and even as dwellings, add a unique dimension to the city’s historical landscape. Nottingham Castle, recently renovated, stands as a testament to the city’s medieval and Civil War history, offering insights into its past whilst below, nestled in the caves is England’s oldest Inn, Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem.

The city is also home to my favourite architect, Watson Fothergill. While one of his most iconic buildings was lost in the late 1960s due to urban development, many of his structures still stand, including his former offices on George Street.
