Evans & James Heritage Consultants are delighted that Stephanie has been selected to serve as a lay assessor on the jury for the RIBA Awards 2025 in the Yorkshire region.

The RIBA Awards are renowned for celebrating and upholding the highest standards in architectural design. Judging building projects is a fascinating responsibility, involving the evaluation of aesthetics, sustainability, conservation, and local context. Judges assess how creatively and intelligently a client’s brief has been fulfilled within budget and planning constraints.

As a lay assessor with over 14 years’ experience as a Chartered Building Surveyor, Stephanie brings a unique perspective to the jury, complementing the expertise of architects and other professionals. Lay assessors are individuals not trained or qualified as architects but who have significantly contributed to architecture in a broad sense through promotion, administration, outreach, sustainable community building, or education of future generations. This  appointment reflects Stephanie’s significant contributions to architecture through her creative and technical expertise within the construction sector as a Building Surveyor and built heritage professional.

The selection process for the RIBA Awards jury is highly competitive, seeking established and emerging professionals with a range of experience, skills, and backgrounds. The juries consist of a Regional Jury Chair, Regional Representative, Lay Assessor, and experts in sustainability and conservation. After a briefing and training session which took place earlier in January 2025, the next step will be for the jury to meet, discuss and shortlist projects based on the information submitted by award applicants. Subsequent visits to shortlisted projects will take place in March 2025, culminating in the selection of Regional Award and Regional Special Award winners.

Stephanie’s appointment is a testament to her dedication and passion for architecture and she is looking forward to participating as a juror for the prestigious awards.
